Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with Mindfulness (CBTm)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

CBTm is a short-term intervention consisting of six classes designed to introduce you to the skills of CBT and mindfulness. These skills have been shown to be effective in the treatment of anxiety or depression, but also for individuals who are seeking effective ways to manage stress and build resilience. If you’re wondering if CBTm may be helpful for you, please inquire for further information.

DBT is an evidence-based psychotherapy whose primary focus is to provide clients with a set of skills to help manage painful and distressing emotions, in turn helping them to decrease conflict in their relationships and live a life they feel is worth living.

The overall goal is to help individuals change behavioural, emotional, thinking, and interpersonal patterns associated with creating problems or difficulties in living. DBT emphasizes behavioural change, problem-solving, and emotional regulation with validation, mindfulness, and acceptance over four modules:

Mindfulness skills are largely considered to be the foundation of DBT and are woven into every module. The art of mindfulness allows one to be fully present in the moment and not live in the past or the future.

Distress Tolerance skills focus on techniques you can learn and use to better manage in times of crisis without behaving in a way that may make the situation worse.

Emotion Regulation skills help you learn how to manage and control your emotions instead of feeling as if they are controlling you.

Interpersonal Effectiveness skills teach you how you can interact with the people in your life to decrease conflict and maintain positive relationships while getting your needs met, learning to say no, and establishing boundaries, all while keeping your self-respect intact.

Piers & Associates offers comprehensive DBT treatment, consisting of individual therapy and group skills training sessions or any combination thereof. Comprehensive DBT takes approximately six months to complete. If you’re wondering if DBT may be helpful for you, please inquire for further information.
